OpenAI-Backed Thrive Holdings Acquires ADT in $15.3B Deal to Build AI Home Security
Thrive Holdings has agreed to acquire physical security company ADT for $10 per share, or roughly $7.6 billion in equity, in a transaction ADT said carries a total enterprise value of $15.3 billion.
Thrive Holdings is the holding company spun out of Josh Kushner’s venture firm Thrive Capital. Its strategy is to own companies over the long term and revitalize them with AI, and it says it now holds more than 75 businesses. OpenAI is both a partner and an investor, supplying AI models, technology and forward-deployed engineers to Thrive’s portfolio companies.
Neither company detailed specific AI-powered security products, but both said they plan to invest in and release new offerings. According to the announcement, ADT will serve as the foundation of Thrive Holdings’ smart home security business. ADT currently partners with Apple and Google, and those relationships are expected to continue.
The deal arrives as AI-driven physical security gains momentum. Apple recently entered the market with a new line of smart home and security products developed with LG and Schneider Electric, while Amazon has refreshed its smart home lineup with new AI-powered cameras. Some startups are even offering AI robot dogs as roving security guards.
