Google has brought its experimental AI app Dreambeans to India, its first international market, with support for 13 local languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali alongside English. The expansion follows the app’s opening to all eligible U.S. adults less than two months ago.

Dreambeans draws on connected Google services such as Gmail, Calendar, Photos, Search, YouTube and Gemini to proactively create illustrated stories about users’ lives and interests without prompts, and now uses the Veo model to animate some images. Product manager Gozde Oznur said India was chosen due to strong user interest and high overlap across Gemini, Gmail and Photos.

Adoption has been modest. Sensor Tower estimates nearly 55,000 U.S. downloads since June, with October downloads falling 84% month over month. Users can also select only one language per story, which may limit appeal where many people mix Hindi and English.

The app’s reliance on personal data raises privacy concerns. Oznur said users choose which services to connect, can disconnect or delete data anytime, and can steer the app away from certain topics, including potentially upsetting memories such as people who have died. Stories are visible only to the account holder, and Google is exploring ways to make the app more actionable.
