Insider Brief

  • Collective secured $100 million in financing, including a $40 million Series B and a separate $60 million General Catalyst growth facility, to expand its AI-powered financial platform for solo business owners.
  • The platform combines business formation, accounting, invoicing, payroll, tax preparation, insurance and customer support, with Collective increasingly using AI to automate those workflows.
  • Collective said annual recurring revenue is growing 120% year over year and estimates it has helped customers save a combined $350 million in taxes.

Collective has secured $100 million in financing to expand its AI-native financial software for solo business owners, including new banking and insurance products.

According to the The San Francisco startup, the financing consists of a $40 million Series B led by General Catalyst, QED and Gradient Ventures, with participation from Intuit Ventures, FT Partners and SemperVirens. Collective separately received a $60 million growth facility from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund that will be used for customer acquisition. Collective said the new capital will accelerate product development in banking and insurance alongside continued work on its accounting and tax systems.

The San Francisco company combines accounting, payroll, tax preparation and other financial services in one platform designed for businesses run by a single owner. Collective said it is increasingly using AI to automate those workflows rather than requiring customers to manage separate software tools.

Collective is going after a U.S. market it estimates at roughly 30 million solo businesses. The company cited Stripe research showing the number of solo operators generating $1 million annually doubled between 2023 and 2025, while those reaching $10 million tripled.

“AI is leveling the playing field, making it possible for a single individual to build a powerful, highly profitable enterprise,” co-founder and CEO Hooman Radfar said in the announcement. “Traditional accounting firms scale by adding people. Collective scales with intelligence. Every workflow we automate and every part of the financial stack we bring onto the platform increases what Collective can do for our members. We’re building toward a world where a Business-of-One can access the financial capabilities of a much larger company without having to build the team behind it.”

Financial Tools for Solo Businesses

Collective combines several financial and administrative functions that self-employed business owners would otherwise handle separately.

Business setup — The platform can handle entity formation, including setting up LLCs and other business structures.

Accounting and invoicing — Collective categorizes expenses, reconciles accounts and provides invoicing tools.

Payroll and taxes — The system processes payroll and handles tax preparation, filing and ongoing tax planning.

Insurance — Collective provides access to business liability coverage and health insurance options for self-employed customers.

Customer support — The company said its AI systems resolve about 50% of support requests automatically while maintaining a 4.5-star customer satisfaction rating.

Collective said annual recurring revenue is growing 120% year over year. The company also estimates that it has helped customers save a combined $350 million in taxes, with some higher-income users saving as much as $40,000 annually.

The company indicated its longer-term goal is to automate more of the financial work that a larger company might assign to accounting, payroll and administrative staff.
