Portia AI Achieves £4.4M in Backing to Launch Open-Source Platform for AI Agent Reliability

Portia AI, a London-based artificial intelligence startup, has secured £4.4 million in funding led by General Catalyst, with participation from First Minute Capital and Stem AI. The company is developing an open-source SDK designed to help developers build AI agents that are predictable, controllable, and secure — addressing core concerns around transparency and compliance in regulated industries.

Co-founded by Mounir Mouawad and Emma Burrows, both former leaders at Stripe, Portia AI emerged from stealth in March and is already gaining traction with early design partners. Burrows said the platform aims to “democratize AI solutions” and help teams deploy agents that are collaborative, not opaque. The funding will accelerate product development and community growth.
