Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI assistant, is fielding multiple unsolicited offers to raise between $40 billion and $50 billion at a valuation ranging from $850 billion to $900 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter. The company is expected to reach a decision at a board meeting in May, in what could be its final private fundraising round before an IPO.
Investor demand is reported to be intense, with at least one institutional backer prepared to commit $5 billion still awaiting a meeting with CFO Krishna Rao. Anthropic’s annual revenue run rate has surpassed $30 billion — up from roughly $9 billion at the end of 2025 — with its current rate closer to $40 billion, driven largely by AI coding tools including Claude Code.
The prospective raise would more than double Anthropic’s February valuation of $380 billion, potentially matching rival OpenAI’s $852 billion post-money valuation from the same month.
