Prometheus, the physical AI startup co-founded by Jeff Bezos and former Verily co-founder Vik Bajaj, has raised $12 billion at a $41 billion valuation from investors including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and BlackRock, bringing total funding to more than $18 billion since the company launched late last year.
The company is building what it describes as an artificial general engineer, AI software capable of automating the design and manufacturing of complex physical systems ranging from jet engines to pharmaceutical compounds. Bezos said a large portion of the capital will fund significant compute requirements.
Speaking to CNBC, Bezos argued that AI-driven productivity gains would create labour scarcity rather than unemployment, positioning himself against more pessimistic forecasts from other prominent technology figures. The company currently employs 150 people across offices in San Francisco, London, and Zurich.
