World Labs has acquired robotics company SceniX as it expands its work in spatial intelligence into physical AI.

According to World Labs, SceniX is joining the company to advance systems that can understand, simulate and act in virtual and physical environments. The company described robotics as a key test for spatial intelligence because robots must perceive their surroundings, understand how objects move, anticipate the effects of their actions and operate reliably.

“When we founded World Labs, our North Star was spatial intelligence,” World Labs founder and CEO Fei-Fei Li wrote in a LinkedIn post. “Marble was our first step: world models that generate explorable, persistent 3D environments. But I’ve always said that one of the deepest promises of spatial intelligence is embodied intelligence — robots that understand the space around them, anticipate the consequences of their actions, and act reliably in the physical world.

Li noted that the company’s vision hasn’t changed and that robotics is one of the main proving grounds for spatial intelligence. SceniX, she said, brings experience at the intersection of simulation and robotics, with technology already tested in live deployments on real hardware.

“In our recent taxonomy of world models, we described three functions — rendering, simulating, and planning — and argued that the knowledge required for all three is largely the same,” Li pointed out. “Together with SceniX, we’re building toward the moment those lines truly collapse: AI that can understand, simulate, and operate across both virtual and physical worlds.

World Labs said it will share more details later about SceniX’s early technologies, current capabilities and future direction. SceniX’s team includes Yunzhu Li, Changxi Zheng and Sonny Xiaochen Hu, according to Li’s post.
