Tuya Smart has introduced Doova, an AI home companion robot designed to support seniors living independently with emergency response, daily assistance and smart-home controls.
According to the China-based company, Doova uses lidar, a four-microphone sound-localization system and AI-based skeletal recognition to detect and respond to potential emergencies. It includes a 10.1-inch display and is designed to interact with users while they are standing, seated or reclining and if a user calls for help, the robot can locate the person, move to their side and assess the situation.
If the user does not respond within 60 seconds, Tuya said Doova can automatically begin an emergency-response process and send a two-way live video call alert to family members.
Doova, unveiled at IFA 2026 in Berlin, also uses a multimodal large language model for conversation and can provide reminders, weather and schedule updates, entertainment and light interactive games. Tuya said the robot can also help users interpret bills and letters, identify possible scam risks and operate connected household devices.
According to Tuya, Doova can learn user preferences over time and provide assistance with areas including meal suggestions, gardening advice and clothing recommendations. Tuya also plans to add autonomous item-finding capabilities in the future.
When users are away, Doova can monitor a home by moving between rooms, performing 360-degree scans and generating safety reports for a user’s mobile phone. The robot uses a dual-wheel drive with caster wheels and supports autonomous docking and recharging.
The system also functions as a smart-home hub connected to Tuya’s AIoT ecosystem, the company said. Users can control compatible lighting, curtains, kitchen appliances and bathroom devices through voice commands.
