Planted has raised $31.8 million to expand its fleet of autonomous construction robots and launch Sage, its next-generation system for building solar projects. Sage is expected to enter the field in late 2026 and deliver more than twice the field productivity of Planted’s existing robots.
According to the California-based company, Piva Capital and RA Capital Management Planetary Health co-led the round, with participation from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Gigascale Capital, Google and Khosla Ventures. Planted indicated the new funding will support expansion of its robotic fleet and deployment capacity as demand exceeds its current availability, plus support hiring for robotics, hardware, commercial operations and field teams.
Planted develops a solar construction system that combines planning software, high-density terrain-following arrays, energy storage and field robotics. The company said its system can be installed on land with slopes of up to 27% without grading and can produce twice as much energy per acre as conventional tracker systems.
“Globally, solar needs to be deployed about five times faster than it is today to hit the scale experts project we’ll need by 2050, and the gap is growing as the industry confronts constraints involving supply chains, land, interconnection, and skilled labor,” CEO Eric Brown said. “The way to close that gap is to turn the construction of a power plant into a manufacturing problem: building robots and deployment systems, not just projects. We have robots in the field proving the model works today. This round is how we scale it.”
What Plant Does
The company’s robots are designed as production-line units, with deployment capacity increasing as more machines are manufactured and sent into the field. Planted said its current fleet is fully committed through 2027, with new Sage units adding capacity as they are produced.
Planted serves solar developers, independent power producers, data center operators and other large energy buyers. Beginning in 2027, the company also plans to offer what it calls powered land, or sites paired with their own generation and energy storage.
Customers can reserve future deployment capacity by deposit, with 2028 reservations now open. Planted said earlier commitments receive priority for additional 2027 capacity as new robots enter service.
Plant’s Projects
The company has also been increasing the size of its project portfolio. Planted deployed more than 10 megawatts in 2025 and said it is on track to deploy 100 megawatts in 2026. Its project pipeline exceeds 20 gigawatts.
Recent projects include a 28-megawatt behind-the-meter installation serving a neocloud data center that went from initial discussions to power delivery in 10 months, with field construction completed in less than three months, according to Planted.
The company also completed the 11-megawatt Bowes Solar project in Illinois for Cultivate Power. lant said its next project for Aligned Climate Capital, Armoracia, is planned for 16 acres after Planted redesigned the layout to use 10 fewer acres than the original design.
