Integral, a Berlin-based provider of AI-powered accounting, tax and payroll services for small and medium-sized enterprises, has raised $20.6 million in a Series A round jointly led by Mosaic Ventures and Reid Hoffman, with participation from existing backers Cherry Ventures, General Catalyst and Puzzle Ventures. The company deploys AI agents to handle tasks traditionally managed by dedicated accounting teams, including invoice reconciliation, general ledger postings, payroll execution and statutory tax return preparation.
Integral’s affiliated licensed practice, Integral Tax, operates on the company’s platform to serve corporate clients across Germany, combining automated workflows with licensed professional oversight. The new funding will support expansion of the company’s workforce, with hiring focused on AI engineering, licensed practitioners and commercial roles, alongside further development of automated workflows for complex accounting and tax procedures and the company’s compliance intelligence framework.
Co-founder and CEO Lukas Zörner said the company was built around the idea that software alone cannot file taxes, run payroll or sign annual accounts, arguing that licensed professionals remain essential even as their numbers decline industry-wide. He described Integral’s approach as building AI agents to perform the underlying work while licensed experts remain accountable for outcomes, framing deeper automation as directly improving service quality. Zörner said the funding round validated AI-native professional services as a viable model for rebuilding the accounting industry.
