Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy reportedly raised concerns with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and other government officials that Amazon researchers had used Claude Fable 5 to obtain information usable in cyberattacks, according to the Wall Street Journal. The disclosure preceded the U.S. government’s export control order requiring Anthropic to suspend worldwide access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5.

David Sacks, co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, said a highly credible partner had brought forward a jailbreak and that the administration had asked Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei to fix it or remove the model, a request Amodei reportedly declined.

Amazon, a major Anthropic investor, confirmed it is not uncommon for governments to seek its counsel on security risks but declined to share details. Anthropic maintained that the capabilities in question are already available in other publicly accessible models.
