Nvidia in Talks with OpenAI to Guarantee $250 Billion Financing for Data Center
The Wall Street Journal reported that Nvidia is in talks to provide a roughly $250 billion backstop for OpenAI as part of a data-center project involving a 10-gigawatt site being developed by SoftBank’s energy subsidiary in southern Ohio. Chipmaker CXMT Vaults to Top of China’s Valuation with 466% Surge in Shanghai Debut
Reuters reported that CXMT shares surged 466% in their Shanghai debut after Asia’s biggest IPO this year, lifting the Chinese chipmaker’s market value to about $487.7 billion and making it China’s most valuable listed company. The company raised $8.6 billion in the offering as investors sought exposure to China’s memory-chip sector, though analysts cited in the report warned the rally looked speculative and could be vulnerable to the chip market’s cycles and U.S. export controls. Misleading AI-Generated Doctors Pose ‘Huge Danger to Public Safety’
Research reported by The Guardian found that AI-generated doctors are drawing millions of views on TikTok while spreading dubious health claims, including disproven cancer myths and fake remedies. The findings prompted warnings from medical experts, the British Medical Association, NHS England and the Royal College of GPs, while TikTok said it removes harmful health misinformation and disputed the study’s portrayal of its platform. AI Devices that See, Listen and Record: Are We Ready for the Post-smartphone World?
CNN tested AI wearables from Meta, Amazon and Plaud and found they could provide useful real-time information and reminders, but often felt socially awkward because they recorded or analyzed interactions with friends and coworkers. Musk Updates Progress of Tesla’s Optimus Humanoid Robot, Warns of Initial ‘Long and Flat’ Production Ramp
Tesla is building a dedicated Optimus production line in Fremont, Calif., with initial output expected later this year, though CEO Elon Musk said scaling the humanoid robot will be harder than any manufacturing program the company has attempted. The company is developing Optimus to perform generalized tasks from spoken instructions or demonstrations, using AI training data from internet video, factory workers and its planned Optimus Academy while building much of the supply chain from scratch.
