UK’s Perceptual Robotics Raises Over £4M in Funding to Expand Wind Turbine Inspection and Maintenance Technology

Perceptual Robotics announced it has secured more than £4 million in funding this year to expand its autonomous wind turbine inspection and maintenance technology.

According to the company, the funding includes investment from new and existing shareholders, including Investing for Purpose, Loggerhead Ventures and One Planet Capital, along with support co-funded by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation.

The company indicated the capital will not only help it expand into new markets, it will also help it refine products for the wind industry, strengthen offshore capabilities and continue scaling tools already used by customers.

“This funding is a vote of confidence in the work our team has put in over the last few years, and in the direction we’re taking the business,” co-founder and CEO Kostas Karachalios noted. “It gives us the resources to move faster on the products our customers are asking for.”

Founded in 2016 by former University of Bristol students Karachalios, Dimitris Nikolaidis, and Kevin Driscoll-Lind, and based at Bristol Robotics Laboratory and Future Space, Perceptual Robotics develops autonomous wind turbine inspection technology for onshore and offshore applications. Its drones Dot and Eve support detailed and rapid inspections, while its AI platform analyzes damage severity, prioritizes repairs and supports maintenance planning.

Since its last investment round, the company said it has expanded internationally, with customers across Europe, North America, Latin America and other markets. The company said its technology is now used in settings ranging from northern Sweden to the Caribbean and on some of the world’s largest wind turbines.

Perceptual Robotics said its product development has been shaped by work with those who operate and service wind turbines, along with blade experts. Recent developments include autonomous inspection systems, AI-assisted damage detection, the Repair Now Ratio and platform integrations.
