Seeing Machines Launches Physical AI Platform for Robot Awareness

Insider Brief

  • Seeing Machines launched a physical AI platform that extends its automotive computer-vision and human-monitoring technology into robotics and industrial automation.
  • The platform creates a dynamic 3D map of people, objects and their environment to help robots interpret human behavior, spatial relationships and changing conditions.
  • Seeing Machines is targeting applications including manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, warehousing and mining, but did not disclose customers, pricing or a deployment timeline.

Seeing Machines announced its launch of a physical AI platform designed to help robots understand people and their surroundings.

According to the Australia-based company, the platform extends the computer-vision technology Seeing Machines has developed for monitoring drivers and vehicle occupants into robotics and industrial automation. The company’s driver and occupant monitoring technology is deployed in more than eight million vehicles globally.

“As robots begin moving beyond research labs and into factories, workplaces, hospitals, homes and public spaces, understanding people and the environment they’re in becomes just as important as understanding the task they’re performing,” CEO Paul McGlone said. “We believe our human-centered AI design philosophy will extend into a foundational capability for the next generation of robotics.”

Rather than focusing only on recognizing individual objects, the company’s physical AI platform creates a changing 3D map of people, objects and the surrounding environment. Seeing Machines said the platform is designed to treat people, objects and their environment as parts of a single scene rather than analyzing each independently. The goal is to give robots enough contextual information to adjust their behavior as people move or conditions change.

The company sees potential applications in manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, aged care, warehousing, mining and industrial automation.

Seeing Machines did not disclose commercial customers,, pricing or a timetable for deployments. The company posted a demonstration video of the platform here.
