Simbe Surpasses 3,000 Retail Robots Under Contract

Insider Brief

  • Simbe said it has surpassed 3,000 autonomous units under contract as it expands beyond shelf-scanning robots into a broader retail platform for monitoring inventory, pricing, promotions and merchandising conditions.
  • The company said its system combines autonomous robots, computer vision, RFID, handheld devices and fixed sensors, and is now used by more than 75 retail banners across nearly a dozen countries.
  • Simbe said more than 90% of store managers working with Tally report that it improves their jobs, while the robot has also received UL 3300 certification for operation in public environments.

Simbe said it has surpassed 3,000 autonomous units under contract as it expands its retail technology beyond shelf-scanning robots into a broader system for monitoring store operations.

Its systems are designed to continuously capture conditions inside stores and provide retailers with updated information about inventory and merchandising and, according to Simbe, represents the contracted fleet is the largest commercial deployment of shelf-intelligence technology. Simbe introduced its Tally inventory robot a decade ago and now combines autonomous robots, computer vision, RFID, handheld devices and fixed sensors to collect information from physical stores.

The system tracks inventory availability, product location, prices, promotions and merchandising conditions. Simbe uses that store-level data to support applications, workflows, AI agents and connected devices used by retailers.

“Retail is one of the clearest proving grounds for physical AI at commercial scale, and this is just the beginning” co-founder and CEO Brad Bogolea said in the announcement. “A decade of operating autonomously in stores has given us the foundation to think far beyond the robot. We’re building the physical intelligence layer that enables retailers to understand and operate stores with greater autonomy.”

Simbe said its technology is now used by more than 75 retail banners across nearly a dozen countries, with the company reporting more than 90% of store managers working with Tally saying it has improved their jobs. The company also said Tally is the first robot designed to operate in public environments to receive UL 3300 certification, a safety standard for service, communication, information, education and entertainment robots.

Simbe said it plans to continue expanding the platform to support more automated store operations, building on data gathered from its existing retail deployments.
