Inside Meta’s Push to Put Robots to Work in Data Centers
Meta is testing robots in its data centers to handle tasks such as swapping network cables resetting servers inspecting equipment and reseating components as it looks to automate more physical maintenance work, Wired reported. The company is using systems from vendors including Kinova Watney Robotics and ABB while current trials still face limits around speed battery life dexterity and the need for human supervision. Not a Token Effort: Beer Meets Artificial Intelligence at Bar in China’s Capital
A Beijing bar is offering customers free access to AI models and tokens with the purchase of a drink, using an in-house agent and locally running DeepSeek-V4-Flash on two Nvidia DGX Spark systems, according to the South China Morning Post. Located in the Zhongguancun tech hub, AGI Bar has also become a gathering place for developers and AI enthusiasts through coding meet-ups and industry events. (South China Morning Post)
We Tested How AI Chatbots Would Handle Foreign Propaganda. They Did Surprisingly Well
NPR reported an experiment with NewsGuard found popular AI chatbots correctly debunked false narratives spread by China Iran and Russia about three-quarters of the time and failed less often than traditional search results. AI-generated search summaries performed worse overall with Google’s AI Overview generally challenging false claims while Bing’s summaries failed to debunk most of them. (NPR)
Caterpillar is Bringing to AI Deployment What it Learned from Automating Mining
Caterpillar is expanding its use of physical AI beyond mining into construction and other dynamic worksites while also applying AI to maintenance tools manufacturing software and internal operations, according to TechCrunch. The company plans to spend $100 million over five years to train its 118,000 employees in AI autonomy and robotics as it works to integrate autonomous systems into customer workflows. (TechCrunch)
Massive AI Boom Puts One of America’s Oldest Manufacturers on Path to Double in Size, CEO Says
Corning is expanding U.S. optical-fiber production as AI data centers drive demand for the high-speed connections linking servers and chips, including three advanced manufacturing facilities with Nvidia in North Carolina and Texas, Fox News reported. The expansion is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs and increase Corning’s U.S. optical-manufacturing capacity tenfold. (Fox News)
AgiBot and Mith Begin Humanoid Robot Production in Serbia
The Global Times reported Serbia’s first robot factory has begun production in Sabac, Serbia through a partnership between Minth Group and Agibot, with the first humanoid robot rolling off the line at the launch. The €20 million first phase is designed to assemble humanoids and robotic dogs, with annual capacity expected to exceed 5,000 units initially and potentially reach 20,000 units as the broader robotics industrial park is built out.
