Stellantis Pro One and UQI Robotics are developing an autonomous electric delivery vehicle aimed at last-mile logistics. The companies indicated they will debut the project, called “Box-on-Wheels’ Sept. 14 at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany.
According to Stellantis Pro One, the Box-on-Wheels project will combine Stellantis’ commercial vehicle experience with UQI Robotics’ autonomous driving, artificial intelligence and robotics technology. The proof of concept is designed to explore how autonomous vehicles, electrification, connectivity and fleet services can be combined into a logistics platform for professional customers.
Initial validation will focus on Europe, where the companies plan to evaluate the vehicle’s operating performance, customer value and ability to scale. Stellantis said the companies could later consider additional international markets.
The goal is to expand the role of light commercial vehicles beyond transportation by turning them into “integrated logistics platform” designed to “improve efficiency, productivity and sustainability,” Stellantis Pro One global senior VP Eric Laforge said in the announcement.
“Professional customers are increasingly looking for solutions that go beyond the vehicle itself” said Laforge. “Through this collaboration with UQI Robotics, we are exploring how autonomous technologies, connectivity and services could contribute to the future of commercial mobility. While autonomous urban commercial vehicles are already becoming a reality in China, this collaboration allows us to evaluate how such technologies could be adapted to other markets and customer needs.
UQI Robotics will supply the autonomous systems, software and perception technology that underpin the vehicle. The company was formed in 2020 as a joint venture between Chinese robotics company Ubtech and automation equipment maker Miracle Automation.
UQI has deployed more than 7,000 robots across 66 cities and regions worldwide and has recorded more than €260 million in cumulative contract value, according to Stellantis. Miracle contributes experience in intelligent equipment, battery packs and battery recycling services.
Stellantis Pro One, the Dutch automaker’s commercial vehicle business, will focus on adapting the system for European and other international markets. The company also plans to develop services around the vehicle, including connectivity, fleet integration and business tools for customers operating autonomous electric delivery fleets.
“Together, we aim to explore the development of a new generation of autonomous logistics vehicles and delivery solutions that meet the needs of customers in Europe and other international markets and are designed for deployment at scale,” added UQI chairman and CEO Li Bei. “This collaboration also marks an important milestone in UQI Robotics’ long-term vision to build an autonomous end-to-end logistics system with autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots.”
The companies have not disclosed a timetable for commercial production or deployment, nor have they provided technical specifications for the Box-on-Wheels vehicle. Their initial work will instead focus on validating the concept and determining whether it can deliver sufficient operating efficiency and customer value to support broader deployment.
